Bosnia and Herzegovina’s (BiH) Central Election Commission (CIK) announced here on Thursday that it verified applications of 67 political parties and 34 independent candidates for the upcoming general elections.

Earlier in May this year, CIK announced that 72 political parties and 39 independent candidates will run,

but after it completed carrying out of checks and verifications of applications of political parties and independent candidates meeting the legally prescribed conditions, the number decreased.

In the period from June 10-19, 2018, certified political parties and independent candidates may file a candidacy for the coalition and the list of independent candidates, CIK official website said Thursday.

The official election campaign will begin on Sept. 7, exactly one month before the start of elections.

At the general elections that will take place on Oct. 7, 2018, BiH voters will elect members of tripartite presidency, which represents the three major ethnic groups of Bosniaks, Serbs and Croats, and choose members of state and entity-level assemblies.

CIK president Irena Hadziabdic said earlier in May that 3.38 million BiH citizens are eligible to vote.
