Chairman of the Presidency of BiH Dragan Covic, who is on a working visit to Australia, stated that distance should not represent an obstacle to the development of relations between the two countries, as well as the development of relations with BH citizens, who represent a connection for even better relations between BiH and Australia.

Chairman Covic met with representatives of the Croatian community in Canberra, who informed him about the general situation in the Croatian community in Australia.

They thanked Covic for his visit and interest, since a member of the Presidency of BiH visited Australia after more than ten years.

The Embassy of BiH in Australia hosted a reception in honor of the Chairman of the Presidency of BiH, which was attended by a large number of representatives of diplomatic corps, as well as BH citizens.

Before the beginning of the reception, Chairman Covic planted a tree in the garden of the Embassy of BiH as a sign of friendship between BiH and Australia. He also had the opportunity to exchange his views with numerous Australians of BH origin and to get some more information related to activities of several BH associations.

He also met with religious leaders from BiH who are working in Australia, Mufti of the Islamic Community of BiH in Australia, Jasmin ef. Bekric, fr. Miroslav Jelic from the Croatian Catholic Center in Canberra, and Goran Checez, the priest from the Serbian Orthodox Church of St. Sava. They discussed the activities of religious communities in Australia. Moreover, they emphasized the importance of spiritual care and nurturing religious customs of all three confessions, with the aim to strengthen the relationship with BiH in this way as well.
