Chairman of the Presidency of BiH, Bakir Izetbegovic, attended the EPP Summit before the Summit of the EU – Western Balkans Summit, which is taking place in Sofia.
The European People’s Party – Summit (EPP), besides the Chairman of the Presidency of BiH, was also attended by the President of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani, and the President of European Council Donald Tusk, the President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic, the Prime Minister of Croatia Andrej Plenkovic, Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz and many others. The hosts of the EPP Summit are the President of the European People’s Party Joseph Daul and Prime Minister of Bulgaria, Boyko Borissov.
In his address, Chairman Izetbegovic noted four key elements that are required for the accelerated path to the EU. He stated that we need peace in the Balkans, that reforms through the negotiations with the EU are necessary and that we need more intensive infrastructure that will give a positive impulse to the economy. He also added that the support of friends from the European People’s Party is necessary in order to achieve all of that.
Chairman Izetbegovic stated that it will make a strong movement of our regional countries towards membership in the EU.
While addressing the media after the end of the EPP Summit,Chairman Izetbegovic said that undivided and so far, the strongest support for the Balkans and its path to EU membership was given at this summit.
The Declaration was also adopted at the EPP Summit, which offered a strong support to the Balkans and its path towards the EU and further noted the importance for the candidate countries to fulfil their obligations.
