Chairman of the BiH Presidency, Denis Bećirović, spoke with the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Ahmed Mohamed El-Tayeb, as part of his official visit to Egypt.

Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Ahmed Mohamed El-Tayeb expressed a warm welcome to Bećirović, and said that this is a historic visit to Egypt and Al-Azhar.

He emphasized that he wishes all nations and citizens in Bosnia and Herzegovina, all religious communities, a prosperous future and success. The Grand Imam said that the interest of Muslims today is to build bridges of trust and connect with other religions.

During the conversation, Bećirović pointed out the importance of the “Declaration on Human Fraternity for Peace in the World and Common Coexistence”, which was signed in 2019 by Pope Francis and Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Ahmed Mohamed El-Tayeb.

He added that modern times require a responsible approach to dialogue between civilizations, and in that context the Declaration is an important document that defines the path to building world peace and trust.

“Al-Azhar University, as the world’s leading center for the study of Islam and Islamic culture, has taken important steps in establishing and conducting interreligious dialogue, participating with the Holy See in creating the Declaration, thus creating a path for all multicultural communities in the world,” concluded Bećirović.

The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Ahmed Mohamed El-Tayeb pointed out that Bosnia and Herzegovina and Egypt are united by precisely such efforts, to build solid multicultural societies based on interreligious understanding, which will serve for a better understanding of East and West.

Chairman of the BiH Presidency Denis Bećirović said that the friendly ties between the two countries have deep roots thanks to the education of Bosnian students at Al-Azhar University, one of the oldest universities in the world.

The interlocutors agreed that it is particularly important to develop cooperation between scientific institutions and educational institutions of the two countries, Klix.ba reports.
