The Chair of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denis Bećirović, met with the President of Hungary, András Bak, in Budapest. They discussed strengthening relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Hungary, European and Euro-Atlantic integration, and advancing regional cooperation.
The Chair of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina emphasized that relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Hungary should rest on mutual respect, equality, and consistent respect for international law.
Bećirović stressed that Bosnia and Herzegovina wants to develop equal interstate relations with Hungary based on the principle of sovereign equality of the states. Hungary’s state bodies must communicate with the state bodies of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and halt the harmful policy of the previous Orbán government, which focused its cooperation on lower administrative territorial units within the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Chair of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina said that democratic changes in Hungary present an opportunity for developing better bilateral relations in the two countries, based on equal interstate cooperation, European values and joint economic interests.
The President of Hungary thanked the Chair of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina for arriving in Budapest to mark the 70th anniversary of the Hungarian Revolution, as well as for his readiness to improve cooperation between the two countries. He expressed readiness to develop friendly relations and to strengthen interstate cooperation between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Hungary.
He especially highlighted that there are strong historical, cultural, and other ties between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Hungary, which should be fully developed in the coming period. He also pointed out the importance of preserving peace and stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as continuing cooperation in areas of mutual interest, as announced by the Office of the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denis Bećirović.
