“Merhamet” of Sweden marked 30 years of work of this humanitarian organization, which since its establishment has collected aid for the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the amount of 24 million convertible marks.

The ceremony in Gothenburg was also attended by the president of the Muslim charity “Merhamet” Kenan Vrbanjac, the director of “Merhamet” Germany Edina Kadirić, the first president and one of the founders of “Merhamet” Sweden Osman Ćuprija, the chief imam of the Islamic Community of Bosniaks in Sweden Idriz ef. Karaman, and numerous other guests.

The president of “Merhamet” of Sweden, Fehim Halilović, looking back on the thirty years of work of this organization, said that “Merhamet” of Sweden, since its establishment until today, has collected aid for the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the total amount of 133 million Swedish kronor, i.e. more than 24 million BAM.

“Only in this year, which was a record, ‘Merhamet’ of Sweden distributed aid of more than 10 million Swedish kronor or slightly more than 1.8 million BAM. These are the money of our people in Sweden, who showed compassion and solidarity with their compatriots in Bosnia and Herzegovina,” said Halilović.

He added that “Merhamet” of Sweden has provided more than 6,000 scholarships for children in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the 26 years since the activity began. The total value of those scholarships was 19 million Swedish crowns or close to 3.5 million BAM.

The first president and one of the founders of “Merhamet” of Sweden, Osman Ćuprija, emphasized that he is very proud of “Merhamet” of Sweden and everything he has done during his thirty years of activity.

“I am glad that ‘Merhamet’ survived in Sweden even after the aggression against our country and that even today it strongly helps our people in their homeland, because the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina still need our help,” Ćuprija said.
