China has detected cases of norovirus at a school in the coastal city of Shanghai, state media reported on Monday.

The cases were discovered after some students complained of nausea and vomiting at a middle school in Fengxian County in China’s largest city. A subsequent epidemiological investigation showed that the students had contracted the virus.

While the infected people are being treated, the district health authority said the situation is “stable and no serious cases have been reported.”

“As spring is the peak season for infectious diseases, the school will further enhance preventive measures for students,” the local education authority said.

Also known as stomach flu or stomach bug, norovirus is a highly contagious virus that causes vomiting and diarrhea.

Norovirus causes acute gastroenteritis, an inflammation of the stomach or intestines, AA writes.
