“Coal business in Europe has long ceased to be relevant, there are fewer and fewer companies, equipment manufacturers, service companies, so unfortunately it seems that these jobs are still done only by the Chinese.”

This is how the director of Elektroprivreda Bosnia and Herzegovina (EP BiH) Admir Andelija explains why the consortium of two Chinese and one BiH company got the job of renovating the boiler of Block 6 of the Tuzla Thermal Power Plant.

Two Chinese companies, “Dongfang Electric International Corporation” and “Dongfang Boiler Group”, will work with the company ITC from Zenica, in central BiH. The value of the project is 25.44 million BAM (about 13.02 million euros), which will be financed by EP BiH from its own funds.

This consortium had the most favorable offer in the tender, and at the beginning of March, Andelija says, they will start work on the revitalization of the boiler.

Block 6 is the second job at Tuzla Thermal Power Plant that was entrusted to the Chinese, after Block 7, worth almost 700 million euros, the construction of which has not yet started, although it has been current since 2014.

What kind of companies are these?

“Dongfang Electric” is a Chinese state-owned company that produces equipment for power plants and projects in the field of energy.

They built Stanari Thermal Power Plant(in the north of BiH), which has been operating since 2016, the only private thermal power plant in BiH, as well as the only one that was built by Chinese contractors, and is fully completed.

“Dongfang Boiler Group” is a company that functions as part of “Dongfang Electric”, and produces boilers for thermal power plants, safety valves, and engines for steam turbines, Radio Slobodna Evropa reports.
