Promo štand 1This year Sarajevo got the honour to host a series of events on the occasion marking the World Environment Day for the region of Europe and the program of the event will be last from 3 to 5 June. The organisation of the entire event o marking the World Environment Day is the United Nations Environment Program, BiH Government and numerous local partners and sponsors.

During three day event, citizens of Sarajevo had the opportunity to inform about food sharing, and learn more about the World Environment Day. Also, UN volunteers shared promotional leaflets and badges to all interested citizens on their promotional stands.

First stand was set on Monday, 3 June, on the Square of Children of Sarajevo, while on Tuesday, 4 June, the second stand was set in Vilsonovo Šetalište, near the Historical Museum, and the third stand was set yesterday near ‘Vječna Vatra’ and near ‘Eiffel’s Bridge’ from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

‘Citizens come to us and they are interested for the program of marking the World Environment Day. They give us their suggestions about what would they do to contribute the preservation of environment’, said the representative of the Organisation ‘Fea’ Nejra Selimović.

Every year on 5 June, people throughout the world mark World Environment Day. Hundreds of thousands of activities aimed to improve the environment and provide a better future for the planet take place in almost every country throughout the world.

The main message of the marking the World Environment Day in Sarajevo is ‘‘Because we care: Let’s Share”. The components are contained in three aspects of ideas about sharing around which all activities are concentrated: Share food, share information, share knowledge.

The message reflects the concept of sharing as a universal answer to the global challenges of today and reflects the tradition of BiH and Sarajevo that includes helping fellow citizens, family and neighbours, as well as foreigners, with the greatest care and sharing  their meals with those who need it.
