IMAG1557Hava Šljivić-Dovadžija was hit by a car by crossing the road on the pedestrian crossing in the Sarajevo neighborhood of Nedžarići on 1 April. The driver is Semir Rastoder. Rastoder was released from prison the next day, which sparked a revolt by citizens of Sarajevo.

The citizens gathered yesterday at the place where the tragic event took place, and they signed a petition and presented their demands.

Among the demands, two were particularly emphasized, and they are for the perpetrator to be immediately brought into custody, to impose the most severe punishment, and to launch disciplinary proceedings against the Prosecutor, and for the judicial authorities, police, prosecution and judiciary to start doing their jobs professionally.

IMAG1553The protestors demanded for citizens to become more engaged in terms of improving the general condition by participating in the prevention of any type of social anomaly, in cooperation with police, nonprofit organizations and all relevant institutions.

Citizens at the protest sent a message to not look on in silence at the injustice that is taking place, and they do not want a group of criminals to terrorize ordinary citizens. They want to say ‘stop’ to injustice and they want to fight for the right to be able to normally cross the street at a green light.
