Collective Funeral in Potočari on July 11 Questionable?

Ć.DURAKOVIĆThe President of the Organizing Committee for the marking of the 20th anniversary of genocide in Srebrenica and Municipality Mayor Ćamil Duraković said today that the collective funeral in Potočari on July 11 is under question if the wartime commander of Srebrenica Naser Orić is not released soon.

“We wait for the next seven days, and then we will meet again and decide whether to hold the funeral and other program activities,” Duraković said after the session of the Organizing Committee, which was held because of the arrest of Orić on June 10 in Switzerland.

He points out that the members of the Organizing Committee are of the view that the 11th of July in Potočari, where more than 50,000 people are expected, has no guarantee the security and cannot tolerate the attitude towards the survivors of the genocide victims because of the recent developments.

“We invite the authorities of our country to make direct contact with the Swiss authorities, since this is more a political than a legal issue. We cannot wait for July 11 while Naser Orić is where he is now,” said Duraković.

In the conclusions of the Organizing Committee, concern is expressed about recent developments in connection with the arrest of Orić and the security situation in the area of Srebrenica.
