The organizing committee for the commemoration of the 31st anniversary of the genocide against Bosniaks in Srebrenica announced that all preparations are in the final phase and that the commemoration program is largely defined, including the central event, that is, the collective funeral at the Potočari Memorial Center on July 11.
At the third meeting of the Organizing Committee held in the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo, it was confirmed that the key organizational activities had been carried out, while the preparation of the remaining locations and logistical details is expected to be completed in the next week.
The president of the Organizing Committee, Hamdija Fejzić, said that everything is ready for this year’s anniversary marking.
“We can say from here that everything is ready for the commemoration of the 31st anniversary of the genocide. We have done everything that needed to be done dynamically so far. We still have to finish the preparations of some locations in the following week,” said Fejzić.
He stated that this year’s program remains in line with previous years, including the Peace March, the arrival of motorcyclists, marathon runners and cyclists, as well as other accompanying activities, with two new activities introduced this year.
Fejzić pointed out that for now there are no announcements of problems or security incidents and that the organizers do not expect difficulties like those that appeared in previous years.
According to him, the arrival of numerous domestic and international delegations, including representatives from Turkey, is expected this year, although on a slightly smaller scale compared to last year’s 30th anniversary.
He also stated that this year at the collective funeral on July 11 in Potočari, nine victims will be buried, noting that this number can still change until the day of commemoration.
At today’s meeting, certificates of appreciation were awarded to institutions and public companies that contributed to the organization of the previous anniversaries. Certificates of appreciation were presented, among others, to the Minister of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Zukan Helez, the Prime Minister of the FBiH Government, Nermin Nikšić, and Ministers Lokmić and Dizdar, as well as to BH Telecom, BH Pošta and BHRT.
BiH Minister of Defense Zukan Helez said that the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of BiH will continue to provide full support to the organization of the anniversary of the genocide in the future.
The Prime Minister of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Nermin Nikšić, pointed out that the organization of the commemoration of the anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica transcends political differences and represents the joint responsibility of all institutions, stressing that the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and relevant ministries will provide full logistical and organizational support so that the commemoration will take place with dignity.
