The Art Colony of Breska gathered numerous Artists from the Region

The Breške Art Colony is underway. The traditional gathering of artists in a natural setting near Tuzla has become a favorite among artists from the countries of the region. This year they are meeting for the 27th time.

This year, the Breške Art Colony brought together artists who choose to design and create their works in the courtyard of the Parish Church in Breške. The topics are of free choice, as are the techniques, and there is no shortage of creativity.

“In my works, I am most dedicated to expressing feelings, so, considering the nature in which we are located and the hospitality, the people and my colleagues, I think I have managed to show in my paintings what I feel and my emotions,” says artist Gabrijela Mamić from Tomislavgrad.

“I like to go to the colonies and meet people there. It’s one moment in a week when a person can relax and think a little outside of some regular duties, and then that allows some inspiration to appear, to change something in the work, to exchange experiences with colleagues,” explains the artist from Novi Sad, Bojan Novaković.

The specialty of this colony, which the artists themselves emphasize, is the welcome they feel from the hosts in Breški. Located in their households, they have the opportunity to meet different people outside the world of artists.

“It’s my first time here. I feel wonderful. I can say, it’s special to me. I’ve participated in many art colonies. It’s different here. Somehow, everything seems familiar to me. There’s a warmth to it,” says artist from North Macedonia Aferdita Kiki.

This is one of the most important events, among many during the year, organized by the Croatian Cultural Society “Napredak” Tuzla.

“This year, we have ten artists at the colony who came from Serbia, Macedonia, Hungary and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Every year, they are academic painters from the countries of the region. Every year, they spend a week there, creating, working with different techniques,” says the president of the Croatian Cultural Association “Napredak” Tuzla Ivica Kovačević.

The works created at the Breška Art Colonies remain the property of the Croatian Cultural Association “Napredak” Tuzla. One part was set aside for the fund of this association, and the other part was sold at auctions or in other ways, while the money collected is used for scholarships for students, which is the basis of the activities of this cultural association. The Breška Art Colony will close tomorrow with an exhibition of works created in the past seven days, Federalna writes.
