On the 3rd February 2026, the first official engagement between COM EUFOR Major General Maurizio Fronda and Lieutenant General Gojko Knežević, Chief of the Joint Staff of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina (AFBiH) took place in Sarajevo. During this momentous meeting, the Generals engaged in strategic discussions relating to their shared vision of peace and security for all people of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The importance of a continued close cooperation and the seamless interoperability between AFBiH and EUFOR were key themes of today’s significant discussion. The occasion provided the opportunity to reaffirm the aligned commitment to continue the well-established partnership – from the camaraderie of the soldiers participating in combined training activities to the key senior leaders in command roles. They reflected on two decades of strong cooperation between EUFOR and the Armed Forces of BiH and while many commonalities were highlighted, Major General Fronda emphasized EUFOR’s strong commitment to remain visible, credible and impartial.

Discussions on the steady path forward to further strengthen these close bonds and commitment in maintaining the highest level of readiness justly echoed EUFOR’s pledge to support its BiH Partners and stand together for a safe and secure Bosnia and Herzegovina.
