Great poet, guardian of the Bosnian language. A man who marked the literary and cultural life of Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina with his poetic and human breadth. A man who was adorned with gentleness, a smile, omnipresence, was and remains a bridge between people and nations, it was said today in Sarajevo at the commemoration of the death of Hadžem Hajdarević, a prominent writer from Bosnia and Herzegovina who died on Monday at the age of 68.

The commemorative gathering in the City Hall, organized by the Society of Writers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, of which Hajdarević was the president, was attended by family members, member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Bećirović, Mayor of Sarajevo Benjamina Karić, former member of the BiH Presidency Ivo Komšić, and numerous public figures and cultural life of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Those present paid their respects to Hajdarević by reciting Fatiha and a minute of silence, and during the commemoration excerpts from his poems were read by actress Hasija Borić.

During a very emotional address, the Mayor of Sarajevo said that today they are sending off forever the friend of all people, who marked the literary and cultural life of Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina with his poetic and human breadth.

“Versatile, creative, engaged during his entire creative life, primarily as a poet, but also striking for the preservation of the Bosnian language. It was and remains a bridge between people and nations. His whole life and poetry glorified the good in man. He lived like that until his last day, leaving us many beautiful words, many connected verses, many valuable messages as the most beautiful monument of his existence. “Hadžem Hajdarević will continue to live in all his poetry and in the memory of all people, all those who knew him,” said Karić.

She added that Hajdarević always thought of every citizen of Sarajevo, and conveyed how he used to respond to her Eid greeting.

“When I would congratulate him on Bajram, he would reply: ‘May we have a happy Bajram and all the holidays in this world,'” said Karić, AA reports.
