Competent Institutions to resolve the Issue of Building a Repository for Radioactive Waste near BiH Border

The Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations in the Council of Ministers, Stasa Kosarac, appealed to the competent institutions at all levels of government in Bosnia and Herzegovina to provide maximum support and contribution in resolving the issue of building a repository for radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel on Trgovska Gora.
"Croatia is serious in its intention to build the disputed landfill in our yard, but that does not diminish the obligation to fight at full capacity and do everything in our power to prevent such aspirations of the neighboring country," Kosarac pointed out.
He demands primarily from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Council of Ministers to finally take a proactive approach to this problem, because neither domestic experts nor lawyers benefit from the policy of a passive observer, least of all citizens from municipalities in the Una basin.
Kosarac announced that he would organize a session of the Coordination Body for Trade Mountain next week to request information from the Expert Team regarding the meeting in Zagreb.
"I will propose to the coordination body that we again ask the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Council of Ministers to act upon the request and officially ask Croatia for the presence and participation of our experts in the research on Trgovska Gora," Kosarac pointed out.
He welcomed the holding of the first meeting of members of the Expert Team from BiH with representatives of the Fund for Financing Decommissioning and Disposal of Radioactive Waste and Spent Nuclear Fuel of the Krsko Nuclear Power Plant last week in Zagreb, which is the result of an agreement with Croatian Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Tomislav Coric.
Croatia is not giving up on its intention to dispose of radioactive waste at the Cerkezovac site, on Trgovska Gora, near the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina.
This is stated for BHRT after two days of negotiations between the expert teams of BiH and Croatia conducted in Zagreb, a member of BH team, Deputy Director of the Regulatory Agency for Radiation and Nuclear Safety, Emir Dizdarevic.
Dizdarevic says that Croatia has already announced public tenders for the construction of landfills,
and that it has agreed to BH experts participate and oversee all phases of construction. He reiterated that BiH is against the construction of a landfill at this location.
