ilid?aOrganized by International Burch University, a two-day international conference opened in Ilidža today on economic and social sciences ICEOS’13 entitled “European Union and Economic Crisis”.

The conference gathers a large number of experts and academics from BiH and the region, as well as from the US, Mexico, Taiwan, Canada, Austria, Albania, Czech Republic and Turkey.

The Dean of the Faculty of Economics at Burch University Ali Goksu said that there are 300 participants from 16 countries that will present around 210 academic papers.

“The conference is focused on problems tied to the EU, countries that are trying to join the EU and countries in transition. From an academic perspective, we tried to find a solution to the current problems’’, said Goksu.

Professor Tom Selwyn from the University of London said that in his lecture he would specifically emphasize that so-called de-centralized cooperation, or cooperation that universities could establish with other local and foreign universities, as well as cooperation between universities, municipalities, chambers of commerce and small tourist companies.

“I think that one of the answers to the economic crisis is to be more flexible, to work with various business ideas that we have here and at other universities’’, said Selwyn.

Edin Smajić, Professor of management at the Economics Faculty at Burch University said that education is one of the key solutions to the current situation in BiH.

“I am convinced that the employees that are educated in the BIH institutions of higher education could provide solutions to the problems that concern us’’, claims Smajić.

Burch University organized this conference in cooperation with the University of Istanbul, University of Mugla and University of Mehmet Akif Ersoy.
