conferencesAs a part of Regional Support Program to Social Research, Centre for Human Rights of the University of Sarajevo has organised today a press conference ‘Perspectives of improving social sciences and humanities in BiH’ which should give answers on how to help the progress of BiH society through the potential of social research and how to come to international funds for this field, reports Fena.

At the conference it was stated that the field of social sciences and humanities in BiH has several issues that needs to be solved, such as the lack of staff and the lack of money.

Coordinator of the program Anđela Lalović said to Fena that the primary aim of the conference is to acquaint the public with these issues, and also to give proposals on how to solve them, and one of them is to create criteria and standards for evaluating the quality of scientific works and to educated the staff on methodology of scientific work at universities.

Lalović said that all that is needed to enable the staff to do scientific work on their own, and one of the most important thing is to reduce the red tape at the universities and to finance good projects

Professor at the Faculty of Philosophy of Banja Luka Nenad Suzić said that the expert group has concluded that in BiH there is no support to scientific research, and added that even in this environment scientists still can do a lot; preventing plagiarism, and falsifying research data.

Deputy Minister of Civil Affairs of BiH Denisa Sarajlić-Maglić noted that there is a lack of analytic capacities in the government and NGO sector as well as the lack of techniques that can be used in making decisions at the level of BiH.

She added that concerning the financing there is a program of the EU FP7 which can be used for interesting scientific projects.

Representatives of ministries, universities, faculties, institutes, research organisations attended the conference.
