The notary contract in which this municipality sells 65 per cent of the land to Fatih Kol was signed yesterday in the premises of the Old Town municipality. The Mayor of the Old Town municipality, Ibrahim Hadžibajrić, said that Sarajevo is going to have a prestigious Hilton Hotel.
Kol finished all of the necessary procedures regarding property rights for 35 per cent of the building that was already there, and he has now received an additional 65 per cent of the land that was owned by the municipality.
“Before the war there were also tenants who used to have tenancy rights and Kol paid them. This 65 per cent of the land was sold for 3.600.000 BAM. The hotel will have the same dimensions and two underground floors for garages. The facade will be the same as before because the building is under state protection, while the interior will be adjusted according to their purpose,” said Hadžibajrić.
The building was shelled and burned down in 1993. Ever since then it has been standing as a mockery of the old part of Sarajevo, behind the Cathedral. As Kol stated for the press, the construction will start in September this year and it’s supposed to be completed in a year and a half.
“I hope this will be a good advertisement for the Old Town and Sarajevo. The workers will work in three shifts and I hope that works will be finished earlier. The value of the investment is 10 million Euros, not counting current expenses,” said Kol.
The current state of this object is very bad. The only things that remained of its construction are facade walls, panel above ground and basement, and construction of vertical communications. The mezzanine constructions of the first, second and third floor and a roof were burned down during the bombardment in 1992. The remains of construction were additionally damaged during the post-war years.
