The mayor of Banja Luka, Drasko Stanivukovic, announced a completely new concept for the inner city center yesterday, during a tour of the works on the reconstruction of Gajeva Street.
“It is about the new philosophy of the city center, which is that the pedestrian is a priority in the strict center,” Stanivukovic pointed out.
A pedestrian zone will be built on Gajeva Street, as previously announced, which means that cars will no longer pass through this street.
“Here we will get a modern promenade, with a small square and statues of historical figures who are worthy of our people,” Stanivukovic claims.
After information appeared in the media that the city authorities were considering erecting a monument to King Tvrtko I Kotromanic at this location, Stanivukovic said that it had not yet been decided which historical figure would get his monument, and that the decision would be made by historians.
There are many ideas. One of them is this one. King Tvrtko has a street on Petricevac, maybe it could potentially be replaced with this one, and the bust or statue should be Ban Kulin and his charter, which would clearly say that our nation ties its roots to these areas and Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and how inseparable that is from the identity of our people. We have strong initiatives for both Dijana Budisavljevic and Vasa Pelagic, Bishop Nikolaj Velimirovic, and Bishop Platon. Our clergy believes that a part of spiritual people should be in churchyards. We will open a wider discussion,” says Stanivukovic.
It should be recalled that after numerous rejections related to the center of Sarajevo, the councilors of the City Council of the City of Sarajevo adopted a draft on changing the location of the Tvrtko monument in the capital.
If the procedure is successful, the monument should be located in the park in Pofalici, Klix.ba reports.
