Consumer Basket in BiH is over 2,000 BAM, how do Families Survive?

The average salary in Bosnia and Herzegovina for May was 981 BAM, but for many families this statistic does not mean much, because incomes and prices vary from city to city.

For the same month, the consumer basket amounted to 2,064 BAM, so the real question is how many families got through the month.

For many, when they buy only the most basic things for the household, they don’t even have the bills left, let alone for something more than that.

From one average salary, a family of four can barely cover the monthly expenses for groceries. On the other hand, prices are rising daily and unstoppably, and citizens, with all the other problems, are finding it increasingly difficult to live.

Basic groceries

A family of four (parents and two minor children) needs more than the average salary per month for food. For example, for breakfast, which consists of bread, milk, 200 grams of salami, 200 grams of cheese, milk spread, hot dogs, you need about 10 BAM. Per month, it is about 300 BAM.

Family lunch, which consists of soup, about 700 grams of veal, half a kilogram of potatoes and peppers, juice, sweets, costs about 20 BAM. It takes about 500 a month, taking into account other foods for lunch, such as pasta, chicken, as well as spices, butter, oil.

Also, for dinner and fruit, a family of four should set aside about 200 BAM per month, Avaz writes.
