The number of Austrian citizenship that were granted has continued to grow in the first nine months of this year, and the list of countries of origin continues to be led by Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).

According to the Statistics Office data, in the first nine months of this year, 6.856 people received Austrian citizenship, which was 9.2% higher than in the same period last year.

More than one-third, or 35 percent of these new citizens, were born in Austria.
When it comes to the country of origin, 950 former citizens of BiH received an Austrian passport, which makes our country leader of this list.

In the second place are the ”former” Turks (597) followed by the citizens of Kosovo (464), Serbia (437) and then Afghanistan (340).
More than half of all new citizens were granted citizenship based on the time they spent in the country, and 588 received an Austrian passport based on a marriage with an Austrian citizen.
