Court Temporarily Halts New Steelwork Bankruptcy, Decision Date for Company’s Fate Revealed

Dino Aličić, a judge at the Municipal Court in Zenica, acting on the legal petition filed by the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and represented by the FBiH Prime Minister, has scheduled a hearing for July 10th. The court will rule on the proposal to initiate extraordinary administration proceedings over the corporate entity Nova Željezara Zenica d.o.o. Zenica.

In an out-of-hearing ruling today, the court issued this order “to allow parties to state their positions on the proposal to initiate extraordinary administration proceedings over the corporate entity Nova Željezara Zenica d.o.o. Zenica.” The hearing is scheduled for July 10th at 9:00 a.m.

Creditors, labor representatives, and public creditors (where applicable) are summoned to the hearing. Those wishing to attend must notify the court in writing by July 7th.

To recap, two days ago, the Municipal Court in Zenica issued an injunction delaying the decision on the proposal to open bankruptcy proceedings against Nova Željezara Zenica. This measure also temporarily suspended any actions that could impact the company’s assets.

In its ruling, the court emphasized that the injunction was granted to temporarily halt actions in the prior case that could render the extraordinary administration proceedings pointless. It ordered the court handling the bankruptcy case at the Municipal Court in Zenica to defer its decision on opening bankruptcy proceedings.

“The temporary bankruptcy trustee, Jasmin Hadžirašidović, is ordered to temporarily refrain from any actions involving the liquidation, transfer, sale, or payout of the debtor’s assets. He is also barred from granting prior consent to any legal actions by the (bankruptcy) debtor—consent which is a prerequisite for legal validity under the Zenica Municipal Court ruling, No. 43 0 St 268975 25 St, dated April 2, 2026—or any other actions that could cause irreparable harm or significantly diminish the debtor’s value. The injunction takes effect and becomes legally binding immediately, remaining in force until a different court ruling is issued, for a maximum of 30 days. The registry court is ordered to immediately record the filed proposal to open extraordinary administration proceedings over the corporate entity Nova Željezara Zenica d.o.o. Zenica, headquartered in Zenica,” the ruling states.

On Thursday, the court in Zenica also held a main hearing regarding the management’s request to open bankruptcy proceedings. However, due to the aforementioned injunction, no decision was made after the three-day deadline expired. Instead, the focus will now shift to discussing the introduction of extraordinary administration. The FBiH Government has proposed Sena Šaranović, a long-time employee of the company, as the extraordinary administrator.
