crime2The Court of B&H sentenced 3 former members of the Army of B&H on a total of 37 years in prison, for having committed war crimes in village Trusina near Konjic.

These members are: Nihad Bojadžić, sentenced to 15 years of prison, Nedžad Hodžić, sentenced to 12 years of prison, and Mensur Memić who was sentenced to 10 years of prison.

Dževad Salčin and Senad Hakalović were found not guilty.

Memić and Hodžić were convicted for war crime against war prisoners, while Bojadžić was sentenced for war crimes against the civilian population as well.

The Indictment alleges that on the 16th of April 1993, the accused ones, as members of the Special Purpose Detachment within the Headquarters of the Supreme Command of the Army of the Republic of B&H known as Zulfikar, in the territory of the village of Trusina, participated in the capture and execution by fire of civilians and the captured members of the Croatian Defence Council (HVO) who had previously surrendered.

The Prosecution of B&H is satisfied with the sentencing part of the verdict for one of the most difficult war crimes on the territory of Konjic.

“In this case, the Prosecutor’s Office made a lot of efforts and activities. We called about 90 witnesses, invested more than 300 evidentiary material in order to prove the guilt of the accused ones,” as stated from the Prosecutor’s Office.

A total of 22 people including some elderly people were killed in Trusina, and 4 people, including some children, were wounded. These are 18 Croatian civilians and 4 captured members of the HVO.

Few years ago, the Prosecutor’s Office has taken activities in the extradition of the accused Rasema Handanović and Edin Džeko, who were also prosecuted for this war crime and sentenced to prison.

“We are not satisfied with the acquittal verdicts and we will make a decision regarding the appeal against the acquittal verdicts, and ask for higher penalties for convicted offenders,” as concluded by the Prosecution.

Until now, only Rasema Handanović has been convicted for crimes in village Trusina, and on 5, 5 years of prison.
