Croatia set a Gas Pipeline under the Sava River without the Consent of BiH

Croatia is now almost done with the implementation of the gasification project of the Oil Refinery in Bosanski Brod, which they did by skipping Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), more precisely, without the consent of the state level of our country, and based on the agreement with the entity of Republika Srpska (RS).

Yesterday morning, Croatian state television announced that the most important phase of gasification of the refinery in Bosanski Brod was finished during the night, whose goal is to reduce air pollution in both Bosanski and Slavonski Brod.

During the night, gas pipes about 400 meters long were pulled under the Sava riverbed. In this way, the Bosanski Brod refinery will be connected to the Croatian gas system via a direct gas pipeline. Gas deliveries to the refinery should start on June 1st.

However, it is arguable that Croatia completely ignored the state of BiH and without the consent of the institutions of this country, above all the Presidency of BiH and the state parliament, the ended this project. Thus, Croatia laid pipes in our country without any permit and connected the refinery from BiH to its gas pipeline.

Croatia conducted the whole process with the entity of RS, and it all started four years ago when the first agreements were signed. Former Croatian President, Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic, was also involved in the whole project, and she also talked about this work with Sergey Lavrov.

The goal is to reduce air pollution, which is understandable, but it is disputable to disrespect BiH as a state and skip its institutions. Does this mean that Croatia recognizes the RS as a state?

To recall, the owner of the refinery in Bosanski Brod is the Russian company “Zarubezhneft”. That Russian state-owned company bought the refinery in Bosanski Brod back in 2007 and has been consistently recording losses over 300 million euros since then, Klix.ba writes.
