Croatia stands firmly with Romania

Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković strongly condemned the Russian drone strike on a building in Romania on Friday and said that Croatia stands firmly with its NATO and EU ally.

“Croatia stands firmly with Romania after yet another dangerous consequence of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine that spilled over into NATO and European Union territory,” Plenković announced on X.

A Russian Shahid drone, which was headed towards Ukraine, deviated from its route and hit an apartment building in the Romanian city of Galați. The impact caused an explosion and fire on the tenth floor of the building, injuring two people and urgently evacuating around 70 residents.

“We strongly condemn this reckless escalation and express our full solidarity with the Romanian people,” the Croatian prime minister announced.

Russia often attacks Ukraine with a large number of drones, so there are also isolated cases when they enter the airspace of NATO member states.

Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Toiu called this incident a “serious violation of international law.”

The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said, on the other hand, that Russia “crossed another border”.

The Russian Ministry of Defense has not yet commented on the incident.
