Croatia will not build a wall to block BiH when it enters Schengen zone

When Croatia finally enters Schengen, it will not raise barbed wire towards Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), the Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia, Andrej Plenković, said in an interview for Saturday’s Večernji list.

In the conversation after a visit to BiH, Plenković pointed out that Croatia supports the sovereignty and integrity of that state, as well as the concept of BiH agreed in Dayton – one state, two entities and three equal constituent peoples and will not allow inequality of Croats in BiH.

“My position is clear and I repeated it once again in Sarajevo and Mostar: Croatia will not build a wire and walls on the border with BiH. That border connects us and will remain so even after Croatia’s entry into Schengen. But that is why the cooperation of our police and all relevant services is extremely important in order to prevent illegal migration. Joining Schengen is not only a privilege and a huge benefit, but also a great obligation for Croatia. Our state border with BiH, Serbia and Montenegro will become the external border of Schengen. Therefore, effective, responsible and thorough control of the border will be a constant task of the Croatian border police,” Plenković said.

He added that it was agreed in Sarajevo to continue talks on a possible change in the categories of certain border crossings and to facilitate the movement of people and goods, in accordance with EU regulations.
