Archbishop Vuksic worried about the Situation in BiH: Peace has no Alternative

The Archbishop of Vrhbosna, Metropolitan Tomo Vuksic, expressed concern over the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and the various political processes that are underway, which he said were caused by the ‘sins of omission’ of the European Union (EU) itself.

When asked if he shared the EU’s deep concern over what is happening in BiH these days, Archbishop Vuksic replied: “We agree that we are worried, I don’t know if it’s a deep concern. It is certain that weapons are rattling, which could endanger peace, and that is why there is the reason for concern,” Informative Catholic Agency (IKA) reported.

In an interview with “Vatican News”, the Archbishop of Vrhbosna also expressed concern over various political processes, which he said were caused by the ‘sins of omission’ of the EU.

”Too many years have passed without intervention in the political, legislative sense, without reforms. Laws are needed to establish the rule of law, not just the actual state. Local problems, unresolved issues are the main problems. The lack of intervention, especially in the last decade, has created is the conditions for secessionism and unitarism, the two political processes of greatest concern. We also hear about the federalization of BiH in the Swiss sense, that is, cantonization. It would be a middle path in the reorganization, but we do not know where it will all lead. In my judgment, there have been certain sins of omission, ” the archbishop mentioned.

He believes that the international community can play an important, stronger, and clearer role, which, he says, is expected of it.

”The problem is unjust laws, full of holes. This enables manipulations, leads to injustices. We are also witnessing electoral manipulations which are, in fact, legal, because the law allows it. Since the beginning of the world there are just and unjust laws, in BiH there are various unjust laws with many holes. They need to be corrected, brought to a level that guarantees the rule of law, while respecting the fundamental prerogatives of each individual, collective prerogatives, the prerogatives of peoples, religious communities, “said Msgr. Vuksic, and concluded that peace has no alternative.
