“We sent Croatia comments on the environmental impact study of radioactive waste disposal at Trgovska Gora,” BiH Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations, Staša Košarac, announced that today BiH sent Croatia a response with requests and remarks to the Request for the release of content on the environmental impact study of the disposal of radioactive waste at the Čerkezovac location on Trgovska Gora.

“We did our part and today, within the defined period, we sent a response to the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Croatia through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina. We submitted the answer to the Ministry of Spatial Planning, Construction and Ecology of the Republika Srpska, as a contact point for the Espoo Convention, which will also inform the Secretariat of this Convention,” said Minister Košarac.

He pointed out that the response was prepared by members of the Legal and Expert Team for Trgovska Gora, in coordination with the competent entity bodies, with a focus on specific examples in which Croatia violates the provisions of the Espoo Convention and the Joint Convention on the Safety of Disposal of Spent Fuel and Radioactive Waste.

“Our experts and lawyers, in cooperation with the representatives of the institutions of the Republika Srpska, the Federation of BiH and Brčko District, and the non-governmental sector, reacted in an adequate way and made a comprehensive response with a series of remarks on the content of the environmental impact study,” said Minister Košarac.

He pointed out that the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH will continue to regularly inform the Council of Ministers of BiH about all the activities undertaken, as well as that it will regularly deliver the requested data and information to the competent institutions in the Republic of Srpska and the Federation of BiH regarding the resolution of the issue of the construction of the disputed landfill. on Trgovska Gora.

“This is a key issue on which there is a unified position of institutions at all levels of government in Bosnia and Herzegovina. We strongly oppose the dumping of waste in the immediate vicinity of the border and we will not give up our efforts to prevent Croatia from doing so,” emphasized Minister Košarac.

He pointed out that in this regard, all relevant institutions have been mobilized and that there are adequate professional capacities for this.

“Today we finished a certain part of the work, but we continue with the planned activities”, Minister Košarac said.

He emphasized that Croatia’s intention to build a disputed landfill on Trgovska Gora represents a serious act of jeopardizing bilateral relations with Bosnia and Herzegovina, and expressed the hope that a solution will be found in the interest of the people living in the river basin based on expert analysis and discussions, as well as through diplomatic activities.
