The Government of the Sarajevo Canton, on the proposal of the Cantonal Ministry of Transport, adopted the Decision on the adoption of the capital project for the improvement of air quality.
The project involves the procurement of low-emission vehicles for public transport and the improvement of bus fleet management. It also implies the improvement of cycling infrastructure and supporting equipment to increase connectivity and accessibility, and determining approaches for the implementation of low emission measures.
The project was included in the draft of the Sarajevo Canton Public Investment Program 2024-2026. year.
“This is another of the important capital projects that we are launching, which, according to the plans, will be fully realized in the period 2024-2026. The big challenge that we face in the Canton of Sarajevo is air pollution, therefore all of us as the Government must act in with our departments to change the situation for the better. We have already reconstructed the railway, started the construction of the railway to Hrasnica, acquired new trolleybuses, and this year we will also have our first tram. We have made significant investments in infrastructure and this is the continuation of our activities towards the highest quality public transport”, said the Minister of Transport of Sarajevo Canton, Adnan Šteta.
He added that he will expand the bicycle network, acquire new buses according to European norms and standards and significantly promote the use of public transport.
The project, in addition to the previously realized projects of the Ministry of Transport of the KS and the Government of Sarajevo Canton, will greatly contribute to the reduction of air pollution, improve the standard and quality of life in Sarajevo Canton, the Government stated.
