At the press conference after yesterday’s extraordinary session, the Government of Canton Sarajevo (CS) explained the new measures it adopted with the aim of increasing traffic safety.

CS Deputy Prime Minister Emir Dedovic, who chaired the session in the absence of Prime Minister Nihad Uk, said that one part of the measures will be implemented urgently, and one part of the measures will be implemented in the long term.

“We will provide support as the Government and ask our institutions and bodies, the police, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and structures, and the Prosecutor’s Office: Do they have everything they need at this time to finish this case and prevent what could happen in the near future? We managed to get relevant information about what happened on that fatal day and a certain part of the proposals for what the CS institutions could do in this period,” Dedovic stated.

Dedovic added that measures related to the police will be urgently implemented.

“As of yesterday, the police started doing certain things and preventing some of the things that are under their jurisdiction. As a first measure, we brought increased police surveillance at all current intersections from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. As of June 1st, we are completing the procedure for 195 new police officers who will assist the current units,” Dedovic added yesterday.

Moreover, he said that another measure that will be urgently implemented is increased control and support in cars and interceptors that record speeding, as an aid to police officers and cameras.

“This is a measure that will help until we properly cover the city with cameras,” said Dedovic.

One of the measures that the public was most interested in was the one to complete and remove the obstacles that exist today, to permanently confiscate the vehicles of violators of these measures.

“We have determined where the obstacles are in the system to finish it, and we will give deadlines to finish it as soon as possible, and that those who use a car can never again have the opportunity to have that vehicle at their disposal. The next thing is that we will increase the fines imposed for traffic violations in the procedure that is necessary for that,” Dedovic pointed out.

Finally, he stated that a procedure will be initiated to lower the speed limit in populated parts of Sarajevo.

“As soon as possible, from 40 to 30 km/h and from 60 to 50 km/h,” he concluded, Klix.ba reports.
