Suspended President of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) Ranko Debevec and former director of the Intelligence – Security Agency of BiH (OSA BiH) Osman Mehmedagic will remain in custody for another month, the Court of BiH decided yesterday.
The Court explained that the proposal of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH was partially accepted and that the custody of Debevec and Mehmedagic was extended for a maximum of one month, i.e. until February 16th or until a new decision of the Court.
At the hearing two days ago, the prosecution requested that the custody of Debevec and Mehmedagic be extended for two months due to the danger that they could continue to destroy evidence and influence witnesses, while the defense proposed injunctive measures.
Debevec and Mehmedagic are suspected of abuse of position and falsification of an official document and were arrested on December 19th.
During the press conference held the day after the arrest, on December 19th, Chief State Prosecutor Milanko Kajganic said that Debevec and Mehmedagic were arrested for abuse of office because they illegally eavesdropped on state judges and officials of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH who were conducting investigations on several cases in 2020.
