The District Court of Banja Luka ordered the detention of the director of the Doboj Hospital “Sveti apostol Luka”, Mladen Gajic, on suspicion that he abused his official position in the procedures of public procurement of medical equipment during the coronary virus pandemic.
Custody was ordered at the proposal of the Republic Public Prosecutor’s Office, and the suspect was charged with the criminal offense of abuse of position or authority, it was published on the website of the District Court of Banja Luka.
Gajic is suspected that, using the state of emergency declared for the territory of Republika Srpska due to the epidemiological situation, together with a previous agreement, he obtained a significant property benefit to the legal entity “Travel for fun” from Banja Luka to the detriment of budget funds in public procurement procedures for medical equipment by the the legal entity which is not registered for trade in medical equipment.
The prosecutor proposed custody due to a well-founded fear that the suspect would destroy, hide, alter or falsify evidence or traces important for the criminal proceedings, as well as that he would obstruct the criminal proceedings by influencing witnesses.
This measure was proposed both because of the gravity of the crime, the manner in which it was committed or the consequences of the crime, and also because release would result in a real threat of disturbing public order.
Gajic was arrested two days ago, when the director of the company “ARMS Systems”, Vladimir Vuletic, was not ordered to be detained, because he showed symptoms of the corona virus. Further action will depend on the test results and his health condition.
