Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala said that the crime in Prague had nothing to do with international terrorism.
“Many lives, mostly young people, have been needlessly lost. There can be no justification for such a terrible act. At this point, it appears to be the act of a lone shooter. So it is not international terrorism or an organized group. I have been assured that the situation is fully under control and there is no other danger,” said Fiala.
The Czech Prime Minister called an urgent cabinet meeting, and Charles University ordered security measures to be urgently increased due to the tragedy at its Faculty of Philosophy and canceled all gatherings tonight and tomorrow.
According to current knowledge, 24-year-old David K., a history student, first killed his father in the village of Hustounj near Prague, and then wrote on the Telegram social network that he was planning a massacre and suicide.
The police investigated whether the profile from which D.K. wrote on Telegram, started searching for him and evacuated the secondary building of the faculty where he was supposed to give a lecture.
However, David, who had never caused trouble or come into conflict with the law, and had a gun permit, opened fire in the main building of the Faculty of Philosophy in the tourist center of Prague.
“It was a horrible premeditated act that started near Kladno and continued in Prague. In the end, he took his own life,” said Czech police chief Martin Vondrous.
Students who knew the attacker told the media that David K. was a quiet, introverted, inconspicuous young man.
The police asked the citizens not to publish videos of the massacre on social networks, but to send them to the police in the interest of the investigation.
Condolences from officials around the world and offers of help are pouring into the Czech Republic.
The victims of today’s massacre have not yet been identified, but it is certain that they are mostly students and lecturers of the Faculty of Philosophy, Beta writes.
