Mandic: As long as I am Mayor, Denis Barta will have the right to sing in Ferhadija Street

After discussions about Denis Barta’s performances in Ferhadija Street in Sarajevo appeared in the public, the mayor of the Municipality of Centar, Srđan Mandić, announced on social networks and offered his support to the young musician.

Barta has been attracting the attention of passers-by in the center of Sarajevo with his performances for years. This talented musician, despite his serious health condition, found a way to express his talent through music and inspire many citizens every day.

Due to the discussions that arose in connection with his performances at Ferhadija, the mayor announced on social networks that Barta will sing while he is the mayor.

“Denis Barta is our child. He could not choose his life or his fate, which was cruel. In addition to being blind, his illness prevents him from using his hands, so without the help of his family members, Denis is unable to perform activities such as feeding, brushing his teeth, etc., but what he can and does with incredible ease is playing,” he pointed out.

He adds that Barta won the favor of the audience throughout the region by winning the popular regional competition of young talents. However, he attracted public attention not only with his talent but also with his generosity.

“He broke the hearts of a large number of people when he appeared and won a well-known regional competition of young talents. Of the total prize amount of 50,000 KM, he selflessly donated half of the amount to the Parents’ House in Sarajevo, while he donated the other half of the money won in the show ‘Supertalent’ to children with disabilities in Croatia,” he added.

Mandić emphasizes that for Barta, music is much more than a hobby, it is a way to find peace and ease everyday challenges.

“Denis has been playing in Ferhadija Street in front of the Market for years, in the summer months, a couple of times a week, no longer than an hour, an hour and a half. Playing and singing is a kind of therapy for him. My mayoral authority gives me the opportunity to issue consent and I have been doing so with pleasure since day one. If even a minute of singing in front of the Market has made his life even a little easier, then I am even happier. While I am the mayor, I will use my discretion and Denis will have the opportunity to sing what he wants. And Denis, like all other children, young people and all of us adults, has the right to his own piece of happiness. I would like to remind all those who, for no particular reason, wanted to deprive him of those rare and short-lived moments. We must not do this, we must not! And therefore, play and sing, our dear Denise,” he concluded.

We would like to remind you that in the Facebook group “Citizens’ initiative for a better and more beautiful Sarajevo” a big discussion was recently started after the status was published about Barta, a young musician who performs at Ferhadija.

In the mentioned group, the status of one citizen was published, which then caused a series of reactions and opened a discussion among the members about where and in what way street performers should perform in the capital.

A citizen believes that it is inappropriate to sing folk music in front of the City Market near Markal and that over the sound system. After the publication of this status, different reactions of users appeared on social networks, which opened a wider discussion about the place of street performers, musical taste and the attitude of citizens towards the public space in the center of Sarajevo, Klix.ba writes.
