Czech Republic beat BiH 85-80 in FIBA World Cup qualifier

SARAJEVO, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) — The Czech Republic upset Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) 85-80 in the second round of FIBA Basketball World Cup European Qualifiers here on Sunday.

In the “Mirza Delibasic” hall in BiH’s capital Sarajevo, Jan Vesely from the visiting team scored the first point in the first minute, but the BiH team equalized soon. The first quarter saw a win by the visiting team, 22-18.
In the beginning of the second quarter, the visiting team had 9-point lead. But Elmedin Kikanovic and Almir Hasandic narrowed the gap to 3 points. The second quarter ended by host team win of 19-16.

The third quarter saw more active play by both teams, following one another and equalizing results, ending the third quarter with one point difference for the host team (23-22).
In the fourth quarter, after Dzanan Musa’s from the host team several throw ins, the visiting team started to play aggressively, ending the final quarter with 5-points lead (25-20).

Tomas Satoransky scored a game-high 22 points for the Czech Republic, while Jusuf Nurkic had 19 points for BiH.

In Group K, France is on the first place with 15 points, followed by the Czech Republic with the same points. BiH is on the sixth place with 10 points, and will need to win the rest 4 matches in order to qualify for the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup in China.
