dan predaThe European Parliament Rapporteur for BiH Cristian Dan Preda, after meeting with the High Representative of the international community for BiH Valentin Inzko in Brussels, said that he is ”deeply saddened”.

Namely, Dan Preda said that “mechanisms for resolving international disputes aim at peaceful resolution of the conflict between the countries.”

“I am deeply saddened that the question of revision of the judgment of the ICJ on 26th February 2007 led to controversy and division within BH in the case of prevention and punishment of the crime of genocide,” said Preda, adding:

“On one hand I understand the moral imperative of seeking the truth and serving justice for the victims. By merely knowing the truth and accepting of the same can the difficult for legacy of past to overcome and a solid foundation for reconciliation to be built. On the other hand, even in the very important moral and legal issues, like everything in political life, the search for compromise within the institutions should be the rule. All parties should listen and truly understand the positions of others. The ideal of the international justice should not be sacrificed for the sake of political objectives. If the current situation leads to complete blockage of the institutions and stopping of acceptance of reforms needed to improve the lives of citizens, it would be totally unacceptable,” said Dan Preda.

Given the fact that three members of the BiH Presidency are close to the European People’s Party, a good idea is to try to coordinate positions and to find a compromise.
