The famous star and music legend David Bowie was a great friend of Bosnia and Herzegovina, especially during and after aggression on B&H.
During the war time, Bowie contacted the prime minister of B&H Haris Silajdžić with whom he met back then in London and expressed support for the people of B&H, especially sympathizing with suffering of the children. Together with Brian En, Bowie conducted activities on drawing attention to events in B&H.
After the war in Bosnia, in 1997, Bowie made a campaign for the project titled “Let us play” by the organization War Child. The campaign was aimed at drawing attention to atrocities which occurred in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as raising money for humanitarian purposes, for various actions such as sports playgrounds reconstructions and the like.
“Although there are no more weapons, the children of Bosnia still bear the heavy burden of the war. They testified to horrifying crimes, their houses, schools and playgrounds were destroyed, and they are facing with terrible reality of six million mines planted on fields where they used to play. Organization War Child helps these children, we build their houses. Please, support this project”, said Bowie in a video made for War Child Organization.
War Child is an international organization founded in Great Britain, with branches in the Netherlands and Canada. The aim of the organization is to provide support to children affected by war, so that they would overcome bad experiences and traumas and move forward.
