Departure is a Problem that BiH has been facing for Years

Apart from Germany, a large outflow of labor could be expected towards Norway. This time the companies of this country come directly to Bosnia and Herzegovina, looking for workers. With organized talks in several BH cities they look for skilled workers in the automotive industry. Are we going to lose mechanics, technicians, car painters this time?

After more than three decades of work in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sladjan Ivankovic is leaving for Slovenia with his wife. He says that his plan is to work for a few more years in order to earn additional income, he is aware, he says, that he will not be able to live on his pension in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which he has a few years left.

“I am 57 years old, and 35-36 years of work experience. I plan to go to the European Union to start my life again, driving a truck. Some attempt before retirement to achieve some normal human rights, to be able to live on something,” said Ivankovic .

Now foreigners come directly to select skilled workers, to work in their state. Norwegian companies plan to come to BiH this month. Organized events throughout BiH are looking for mechanics, car paint technicians. We were unable to obtain more detailed information from the organizers of these events, how many workers they plan to hire and under what conditions. This is a practice that facilitates the departure of workers, according to the employers’ association.

Adnan Smailbegovic, Association of Employers of FBiH

“When you have something organized, when you have agencies that take care, to organize the necessary documentation, to organize transportation and accommodation, then it is much easier for our workers. It is difficult for someone to look for a job directly, especially if they do not know the language,” he said.

The trend of the departure of the labor force is a problem that Bosnia and Herzegovina has been facing for years, and with such events when foreigners come to pick up our workers, it could only be faster and more massive.
