8615The Mayor of Sarajevo Ivo Komšić received today the President of the Permanent Committee of the International League of Humanists (ILH) Stjepan Mesić, who is on a visit to the capital city of BiH to take part in the ceremony of recognition of this international organization.

The meeting with Mesić, the former President of Croatia and a proven advocate for peace, security and cooperation in the region, was an opportunity for the exchange of opinions on the current issues of importance for the development of Sarajevo, including the ways in which ILH could contribute to the plan.

Expressing satisfaction for the visit to Sarajevo and the opportunity to send congratulations to the new Mayor, Mesić demonstrated again principles and credibility, emphasizing the importance of the homogenization of BiH society and development of Sarajevo.

“I am happy to be in Sarajevo on this day. What is now before the citizens of BiH is the homogenization of BiH society’’, said Mesić after being received in the city administration. He stated that in this respect, institutions must make additional efforts.

He stressed the necessity of activating the wider international community for the development needs of Sarajevo and to help in the plan, bringing into context the activities of ILH and international support to this association in promoting tolerance and mutual understanding in BiH society, which was the most tolerant in Europe, and which is now facing different kinds of divisions and temptations.

Mesić thinks that all states and cities whose citizens participated in the 1984 Olympics in Sarajevo, as well as friendship cities, should be invited to be included int this segment, where ILH contributed to many concrete projects within the education system so that children, as the youngest members of BiH society, could perceive the opportunities of reintegration of socity and its true value.

The Mayor of Sarajevo Ivo Komšić expressed satisfaction with Mesić’s visit and the fact that this coincides with the celebration on 6 April, the Day of the City of Sarajevo, while underlining the importance of the support of ILH and Mesić, who enjoys a great reputation in the world and in Croatia.

“It is very important that he openly and clearly, in the world and in BiH, speaks the truth’’, said Komšić, and said that he does not obscure or pervert anything and that his rhetoric in our country is very clear and friendly.

The immediate reason for his visit to Sarajevo is the presentation of awards of ILH to Sarajevo high schools “Isak Samokovlija”, “Hasan Kikić” and “Safvet-beg Bašagić” for their contribution to the development of tolerance and understanding through education of young people in accordance with the highest civilizational values and achievements.
