Representatives of Association “Gračaničko keranje” today at the Square of Children in Sarajevo by symbolical distribution of the memory flowers joined marking of 11 July, the memory day on victims of genocide in Srebrenica.
This association has come up with the idea of making this symbolic flower three years ago on memory of victims of Srebrenica genocide.
White part of the flower represents innocence, green part represents hope and 11 petals represent 11 July 1995.
“This idea came up, out of a desire to show solidarity and to develop a symbol that everyone would carry such as in B&H and in the world. Here, today, 19 years after the genocide in Srebrenica, we want that more people wear this flower as a sign of sympathy for the victims and for family members of the victims”, said the President of the Board “Gračaničko keranje” Abida Jahić.
She explained that the organizers decided to define a symbolic price for the flower to help those who make these flowers – women of Srebrenica and unemployed women.
The primary objective of the Association is to promote and protect traditional techniques as one of the oldest crafts in the area of Gračanica and B&H.
