The President of the Republika Srpska (RS) Milorad Dodik said yesterday in Banja Luka that the police will increase security in schools and that all facilities will have fences, in order to increase security.
Dodik thinks that neoliberal values have been accepted easily and that the conditioning of European and other institutions has led the education system to a situation where it does not reflect the needs of society.
“Fear for generations to come”
”Once again, on behalf of the RS and on my own behalf, I express great sadness and disbelief over the tragedy at the elementary school in Belgrade. That is why it was necessary to analyze the situation in the RS, and it will be prohibited to bring mobile phones into schools during classes. It is unbelievable that a few months-old child is already playing games on phones. Parents allow it and we have to fear for the generations to come. We have developed a control system in schools for several years and it gives a result, but not a definitive one. That is why security will be strengthened through members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. There is a problem with older students staying in shifts at times when they are not going to school, and this creates an atmosphere that can cause peer violence. It is necessary to react to that,” Dodik told reporters after the extraordinary session of the RS Government.
He pointed out that raising a child is not only a matter for the school and it is necessary to look for the unity of the school, parents, and institutions, and that primacy should be given to educational workers.
Measures of the RS Government
He also referred to the first measures that the RS Government will undertake in the coming months.
”A ban on bringing phones will be introduced for children in schools very soon. Especially during classes. Children entering the class will have to put their phones away for the duration of the lesson. Even the anger of the parents will not help. If we allow this, then educational institutions will no longer be educational. Educators do a hard job and we have to support them,” emphasized the president of this entity in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).
Finally, he announced that drug testing will be introduced in schools.
”We notice that there are intoxicants in schools and that it is necessary to do everything to prevent this. We will introduce regular and extraordinary narcotic drugs testing of children,” concluded Dodik.
