Demolition of the chimney which was part of the former spirit factory in Tuzla is currently in progress.

The store chain “Bingo” has announced that it will invest in construction of a modern shopping center on the site, which is located in the Tuzla settlement Kreka.

Some of Tuzla’s citizens believe that the new facility will give the western part of the city a more modern look, while others believe that it is a regrettable demolition of one major symbol of Tuzla’s industry.

It was initially suggested that the 46 meter high chimney should be preserved as a billboard for a modern shopping center, but eventually this idea was given up.

The spirit factory in Tuzla began working in 1887. It was one of the first to shut down after the privatization process. The business facilities have already been demolished, and the destruction of the chimney will erase the last remnants of the factory.
