Dr. Haris Silajdžić: Why has the Bosnian Transition been so Difficult?

11018.fa21167bToday, Dr. Haris Silajdžić, the former President of Bosnia and Herzegovina, was welcomed by the administration of International BURCH University with Rector Dr. Teoman Duman.

After a warm welcome and appropriate welcome gifts, the delegation proceeded towards B block to the newly opened conference hall where Dr. Silajdžić held a lecture on the topic “Retrospective Analysis and Future Perspective: Why was the Bosnian Transition so Difficult?”

Beside the aforementioned, Dr. Silajdžić talked about the period when he was president of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the part of his life when he was no longer politically active. Students learned many historical facts and advice from the esteemed guest.

The one day visit ended with a cordial thank you ceremony and a tour of International BURC University’s campus.

 Dr. Haris Silajdžić, born on october 1, 1945., graduated from Gazi-Husrev Begova Madrassah in 1964 and leaves for Libya to study Arabic language and Islamic studies. In 1997, dr. Silajdžić earns his Master’s degree and in 1979 his doctorate at the University of Priština.

He acquired employment at the Faculty of Philosophy in Priština as a lecturer of Arabic language; in 1996, he becomes a professor at the Faculty of Philosophy in Sarajevo and in 1998 also at the American Cornell University.

During the war, Dr. Silajdžič serves as the Minister of Foreign Affairs (1991-1993) and Prime Minister of the RBiH and the FBiH. In 1996, he becomes the co-chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He was a candidate for the Bosniak member of the Presidency in 2002 and again in 2004, when he wins.

In 2011, he resigns as President of the Party for Bosnia and Herzegovina and leaves public life.
