The Chairman of the B&H Presidency, Dragan Čović, has met the President of Montenegro Filip Vujanović. The topics for discussion were the bilateral relations between these two countries as well as the situation in the region and their cooperation. In the spirit of a common rating of the Western Balkan countries that the economy is a foundation of linking the region, a possibility of an expansion of the cooperation has been discussed. It would be possible through a more active realization of projects of common interest in the areas of communication, the development of an electric power sector, and the transport infrastructure.
Another topic of the meeting was a great potential for strengthening the mutual cooperation by participation in the IPA program of the cross-border cooperation, an exchange of experiences in a harmonization of regulations and using the pre-accession EU funds that will be contributed in a specific way by the Intergovernmental Agreement conclusion about the cooperation in the field of European integration.
Since it is the both countries’ strategic priority in the foreign policy, they emphasized the continuous cooperation with the neighbours, with the goal of deepening good neighbourly relations.
Intensification of cooperation on realization of the Ionian- Adriatic Pipeline (IAP) project
In that sense, signing of the Border Treaty between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro has been announced for August 26 in Vienna in the margins of the Conference of Western Balkans States. The Treaty has been rated as highly significant because it shows the possibility for solving the serious bilateral questions in the Western Balkans in a spirit of openness and friendship. Čović and Vujanović again confirmed the commitment of both countries in strengthening the energy security in the region since it is essential for its economic and social prosperity. In relation to this, the intensification of cooperation on realization of the Ionic- Adriatic Pipeline (IAP) project has been rated as highly significant, as well as signing a common statement at ministerial level about the intensification of a cooperation on that project, as announced from the Service for Public Relations of the Presidency of B&H.
