Dragan Covic spoke in the EU Parliament about Bosniak Domination and said that it hinders the Country

Croatian Democratic Union of Bosnia and Herzegovina (HDZ BiH) leader Dragan Covic addressed the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, blaming the Bosniak people for stalled reforms in BiH.

He used the beginning of his speech to support the position of the European Union (EU) institutions to impose sanctions on Russia, and he condemned “the aggression of that country against sovereign Ukraine”.

”We in BiH are especially sympathetic in these difficult days. I can personally testify that we have already accommodated hundreds of refugees in Medjugorje and Mostar and that they were received with an open heart,” he stated.

Then he referred to the four-year war in BiH and the path the country has taken since then.

”After four years of the worst human rights violations, on the foundations of Dayton, the three constituent peoples of BiH have been building BiH for a quarter of a century. I am especially proud to be the one to submit the application for EU membership. Today, we continue to strongly advocate our future within the EU and I am deeply convinced that we can achieve our path,” Covic said yesterday.

He is also convinced that there is no European path in BiH without “parity among the three constituent peoples in all BiH institutions”.

”Parity is needed, which is in accordance with the Constitution of BiH, and which is unfortunately increasingly violated in the name of the domination of the majority people, especially in the Federation of BiH (FBiH). We must eliminate this anomaly, that is how we will eliminate human rights violations. Attempts to implement retrograde agendas, but also the successes of the political domination of one nation over another, have led to a peak of mistrust and this has stalled key reforms in the country,”Covic added.

Covic also told the EU parliamentarians that it is unacceptable that not all people in BiH can run for all positions in the country. He called on Bosniak representatives for dialogue and a solution, and said that the Croatian side was acting “transparently and in good faith”.
