The Bosnia and Herzegovina national football team defeated Romania 1-0 in Bucharest tonight in the first round of Group H qualifying for the World Cup.

Our team took the lead in the 14th minute. Edin Džeko masterfully set up Kolašinac, and our left-back assisted Gigović, who scored a goal against the helpless Nita.

By the end of the first half, Romania had several chances, but Vasilj finished the half without conceding a goal.

In the 54th minute, Tahirović played with his hand in our penalty area, and after a VAR check, the main referee Danny Makkelie assessed that there was no intention and did not award a penalty to the home team.

A few minutes later, Vasilj made a great save from Dragus.

By the end of the match, the home team had several more chances, but the Dragons defended themselves and won three points.

Bosnia and Herzegovina will host Cyprus in the second round match on Monday at 8:45 p.m. in Zenica.

Romania will host San Marino on the same day.

Austria is also in Group H, which will not play qualifying matches in March due to the play-offs for the Nations League A.

For the first time, 48 teams will participate in the World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico, and 16 teams will represent Europe.

The winners of the 12 qualifying groups will secure direct qualification for the World Cup, while the 12 runners-up, along with the four best-placed teams from the Nations League (who do not finish first and second in the qualifying groups), will play an additional play-off for the remaining four European teams to the 2026 World Cup.
