Dzaferovic: The NATO Declaration clearly states that BiH is Aspirant for Membership

Sefik Dzaferovic, a member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), supported the adoption of the Declaration of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), which set out positive and important messages when it comes to our country.

“First of all, it is of the utmost importance that the strongest military alliance in the world, which with its intervention made a crucial contribution to stopping the aggression on BiH, said that it strongly supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of BiH, which is a clear message to those who still dream of dividing BiH, ” Dzaferovic stated.

Also, he added that the message of the Declaration and the clear definition of BiH as an aspirant, ie as a country aspiring to NATO membership, is very important, which clearly showed that the NATO alliance recognizes the status of BiH defined by the Reform Program, as well as all previously valid decisions of institutions, as well as the Law on Defense, which traced the NATO path of BiH.

“Of course, all of the above does not conflict with the fact that the final membership in NATO requires the signing and ratification of the North Atlantic/Washington Treaty, as the final step on the path to NATO integration,” said Dzaferovic.

He also welcomed NATO’s specific messages calling on political leaders to turn to constructive processes and reforms, as this is the only path BiH can take.

Dzaferovic called on everyone in BiH to confront these facts, turn to constructive reform processes, and the creation of a stable, secure, and prosperous political and social environment.
