Dzeko: David Silva is the best player in Premier League

150221080.1_mnManchester City striker Edin Dzeko said teammate David Silva was “the best player in the Premier League” after he produced a man of the match display in the 5-0 home win over Newcastle.

Silva scored twice and provided a delightful assist for Dzeko to score his first City goal since September, with Sergio Aguero and Samir Nasri also on the scoresheet.

And striker Dzeko was full of praise for the architect of a victory that cut Chelsea’s lead at the top of the Premier League to five points.

“The pass from David was first class, and for me he is the best player in the Premier League,” Dzeko told Sky Sports. “To have him here with us is amazing. With David, you can always score goals.

“We played an amazing game knowing that we are playing a big game in three days against Barcelona [in the Champions League]. Our defence enjoyed this game and so did I.

“We knew that Chelsea had only drawn [1-1 at home to Burnley] and we had to do our job today. We did it well.

“Just before when we went out on the pitch, we heard Chelsea had drawn. The reaction was positive.

“People say five points is a lot [big gap to Chelsea] and maybe it is, but if we keep playing like we did today then I think we can definitely catch them. First of all, we have to concentrate and try and win our games.”

Meanwhile, Dzeko suggested that he does not view the 28 million-pound arrival of Wilfried Bony at Manchester City as a threat after the Ivory Coast striker made his debut in the second half.

“We are all playing for one team and I don’t see him as competition for me,” he added. “We all try to get good results for Man City and he is very welcome.

“We know him from the Premier League, and he has scored many goals. He will bring something to our team.”
