Cultivation of Raspberries brings Millions to BiH

raspberriesThe lecture on the topic “The technology of cultivation, protection and fertilization of raspberries“ that representatives of Swiss Caritas Dzevad Lavic and Asad Jeleskovic held for producers from the Upper Vrbas region, was held in Bugojno.

They emphasized that the Upper Vrbas region took the precedence in the production of berries, especially raspberries, compared to Srebrenica and Bratunac, regions that were ahead of the production of this fruit.

“BiH is currently 12th in Europe in the export of berries, raspberries in particular. About 35% of raspberries in frozen state are being exported from our country. Educations of this type are very significant, as well as achieved results of production, which is best confirmed by the presence of around 300 raspberry growers at this presentation”, said representatives of Swiss Caritas.

As an expert advisor for agriculture in the municipality of Bugojno, Bahira Bajric, said that the raspberry grow became a fundamental agricultural production in Bugojno, but also in other municipalities of Middle Bosnia Canton.

“According to date that we dispose with, around 700 households on the territory of the municipality of Bugojno deals with the raspberry and other berries production, on the area of about 180 hectares. From the sale of raspberries produced in Bugojno, millions of euros per season are pouring into the city, and farmers are now seeing results of their work”, she emphasized.
